Inside a plan
Website maintenance cost UK: what a plan pays for
Updated
Website maintenance in the UK costs from £20 to £200 a month at the entry plans firms publish, and what moves the price is how much a person does each month, not the software. These are the parts a plan pays for and the questions that tell two plans apart.
- Updates
- Core, theme and plugin updates, tested so an update does not break the site.
- Backups
- Copies of the site kept off the server, and how quickly they can be restored.
- Security and monitoring
- Scanning, a firewall and an alert when the site goes down.
- Hosting
- Included in some plans and billed separately in others.
- Support hours
- Time for content changes and small fixes. Extra hours are usually charged by the hour.
Black Nova Designs, for one, prices time beyond the plan on its own page: "Additional hours can be purchased at £60 per hour".

What to ask before you sign
- How many hours a month are included, and what an extra hour costs.
- How often backups run and how long they are kept.
- Whether hosting is included and where the site will live.
- The notice period, and whether you keep full access to your site and domain if you leave.
